Report: BMW reportedly in talks to buy De Tomaso

De Tomaso

De Tomaso has had a rough go of it in the last year, between struggling to bring a car to market, going under, and then having its chairman arrested for shady financial activity.

Things might finally be looking up for De Tomaso, however, according to Automotive News Europe. The Italian Industry Ministry is reportedly in continuing discussions with different potential buyers, and BMW is reportedly among the suitors.

De Tomaso filed for bankruptcy earlier this year after selling the rights to build the grotesque Deauville sedan to a Chinese company in order to fund the next Pantera.

BMW previously denied having any interest in the bankrupt automaker. Automotive News says the Italian Industry Ministry hopes to find a buyer and get the sale process kicked off sometime next month.

Is This the Best Transit Ad Ever?

The idea of investing in transit is popular with Americans, even among those who don’t depend on it. But trains and buses, buses in particular, have always had an image problem. Petrucci tops opening Misano practice

Danilo Petrucci was quickest in a very quiet opening MotoGP practice session at Misano. Damp and very cold conditions dissuaded most of the prototype field from coming out, meaning the timesheets were dominated by CRT riders. Petrucci's late 1m43.178s on the Suter-BMW that Ioda has switched to this weekend put him 0.2 seconds ahead of Michele Pirro's Gresini FTR-Honda.

So, qualifying for the ISOWC Indianapolis 500 has been and gone, and what a weekend it was. 40 sim-racers attempted to make the field, 33 secured a spot in the race, and seven drivers were left disappointed, none more than John Schilling, who missed the cut by just 2/1000th of a second after using his runs too early in the day to be able to react when needed. Drama was the order of the weekend. Not “Put on your boxing gloves and prepare for a fight” drama, but of the “ Edge of the seat, too scared to look at the scoring tower” style. Lanier National Speedway, located in Braselton, Georgia, started life in 1982 as a dirt track, which is commonly seen with modifieds, street stocks, and sprint cars. Five years later, Lanier was paved, and its popularity soared.  It’s because of this popularity, along with the track’s rich history, that brought this .375 mile oval to the iRacing.com catalog. It is now among one of the most popular short tracks in the service, and every member of iRacing.com has access to racing on this slippery oval.  That said, an extremely high turnout was expected at Lanier for Week 5 of the iRacing.com Sprint Car Series, as this is quite the hot spot for sprint drivers. With many in the iSCS having extra practice at Lanier, things were sure to heat-up on and [...]

Report: OnStar bug forces GM to halt deliveries on 60,000 vehicles

GM OnStar

General Motors stopped the sale of certain 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, Equinox and Volt models as well as 2013 Buick Verano units, GMC Terrain crossovers and 2012 Cadillac SRX, XTS and ATS vehicles due to a problem with the onboard OnStar crash notification system. According to Automtotive News, the affected units would not notify emergency responders of an accident in any collision that did not actuate the vehicle's airbags. That could include rear-end impacts. GM says the software glitch won't take long to address and doesn't impact the crash notification system in accidents that involve deployed airbags. The trouble doesn't prevent the airbags from deploying, either.

All told, the stop-sale covers around 60,000 vehicles already on dealer lots. GM has already cleared some of those for sale thanks to a remote reflash sent through the OnStar system. Automotive News reports that unfortunately, the fix hasn't worked on every vehicle, and dealers are having to manually install the fix on the remainder of the impacted units. GM expects the repair to be completed by the end of September.
