At first glance, this footage from BMW seems like just another promotional video, but then you rub your eyes and lean in closer to the screen. The new standards ask: Can you climb the Davis Dam grade? Manufacturers’ truck-towing ratings are a lot like Donald Trump’s politics. Bold? Certainly. Realistic? Um, we have no idea. Alex Warren and Brandon Buchberger have been trading the top spot in recent weeks and with the series visiting their home state during Week Five, you knew they weren’t going to let up on their pursuit for the overall crown. When the checkered flag fell on seven days of intense tailgating action, it was a two point margin of victory for Buchberger over his Class C and NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) rival Warren. Over 1,300 drivers took to the track during Week Five but it was Buchberger’s 3748 Strength of Field (SoF) victory on Monday that tipped the scales in the favor of the Sugar Grove native. Official: 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe makes its debut

Better late than never, right?

We're now on the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the luxury sedan that kicked off the whole "four-door coupe" craze. Since then, Volkswagen countered with the CC, Porsche launched the Panamera, and Audi won us over with its A7. So what about BMW? Now that the big 6 Series coupe has taken hold, the German automaker has added a proper back seat and two additional doors to create this, the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe.

The first version of the Gran Coupe to arrive Stateside will be the 640i, powered by BMW's N55 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six, good for 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque in this application. Shortly thereafter, the 650i Gran Coupe will arrive, available with rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, boasting a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 tuned to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with BMW's ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

Compared to its two-door counterpart, the Gran Coupe is a full 4.4 inches longer, and most of that added length benefits the rear passengers. BMW's literature states that the stretched 6 Series has a 4+1 seating configuration, meaning there's actually a quasi-usable seat between the two outboard rear positions. (Good luck.) Judging from the photos, the Gran Coupe's interior is as luxuriously appointed and tech-laden as the rest of the 6 Series range - if not a little bit moreso.

We originally thought that BMW would debut the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe at next month's Detroit Auto Show, but since the all-new 2012 3 Series is expected to make its public debut at Cobo Hall, we think BMW may hold off on the official Gran Coupe introduction until the Geneva Motor Show in March. We'll likely know official pricing details around that time, too. For now, soak it up in our high-res gallery and follow the jump to read the full details in BMW's press blast.

four-door supercar drag race

The latest BMW M5, Jaguar XFR, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Porsche Panamera S all have lots of things in common. They all have four doors, V8 engines underhood, hail from high-end European automakers known for luxury and performance and can all be had for a wee bit under $100,000.

But which one is fastest?

Well, that depends on how you're planning to measure speed. Do you mean top speed? The time it takes to circle a given race track? Or do you mean in a drag race, the quintessential way to compare a car's ability to accelerate in a straight line?

If that's the case, you'll find your answer in the video after the break. You'll see each of the aforementioned automobiles lined up against one another, racing flat-out over the distance of 1,000 meters.

Who wins? Hit the jump to find out.

Rumormill: BMW X6 M550d specs supposedly leak, hits 60 mph in under 5 seconds

2012 BMW X6 M550d

When the official source of a rumor calls it a rumor, the grain of salt grows proportionately. But according to the crew at BMWBlog, the recently teased BMW X6 M550d will come packing 381 horsepower and a pavement ripping 545 pound-feet of torque.

The news comes courtesy of unnamed sources that say the first diesel from the M division will supposedly pack a tri-turbo, six-cylinder diesel nestled beneath a modified hood. Two versions are rumored to be available: a traditional RWD variant badged the M550D and an all-wheel-drive version that appends the xDrive moniker to the end. BMWBlog's people on the inside say that the RWD model will hit 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, with the AWD doing the deed in 4.7 ticks.

The good news: The M-fettled diesel X6 will reportedly go on sale in March of 2012. The bad news: It's a Euro-only affair.

Stevens goes fastest on final day

Will Stevens went fastest for P1 Motorsport on the final day of Formula Renault 3.5 testing at Aragon. Stevens rose to the top of the timesheets in a dry final session, setting a 1m43.072s benchmark which was just enough to deprive Arthur Pic (Epic Racing) and Marco Sorensen (Gravity-Charouz). The second Gravity car of Richie Stanaway, pacesetter on the opening two days, ended the final session fourth fastest, although the German F3 champion's day two benchmark remained the fastest time across the whole test.
